In this week's edition of Emailology I’m going to ask you to take a moment to imagine the following…
It’s Tuesday morning, you’ve just arrived at your desk and waiting in your inbox is an email informing you that a contact you work with has moved to a new company along with their new email address and the name of an alternate contact at the company they just left.
If it were me, I’d email my contact in their new role to say “congrats” and then email the alternate contact to see who’s now in charge. I’d then update our CRM.
This creates the following two short term opportunities for me:
- Identify a new business opportunity with my existing contact in their new role.
- Retain an existing account by reaching out to the alternate contact with an intro email.
With data decay rates at 30% annually this simple tool could help me win/retain dozens of clients each year.
And as a bonus, it can solve our data hygiene challenges.
