Almost 6 years ago now I began looking at how Artificial Intelligence might be able to help the team at Emailmovers send fewer emails whilst simultaneously improving engagement (i.e. positive replies, clicks etc).

It was challenging to say the least.  For a period of about 2 weeks we looked at how we could train a model to spot patterns in historical campaign data then using this information predict who would open a future email.

The model selected contacts with a higher likelihood of engagement and we sent our email to them expecting to see a 90% open rate but we got nothing of the sort, in fact the needle barely moved at all which was disappointing to say the least.

However, out of this came a basic understanding of how AI could change things if I could get it working and so I got interested in other applications of AI that could potentially benefit our customers.
